The books that created a haunter!

I'm gradually rebuilding the collection of books that I read as a child, books that shaped my young mind into the Halloween/horror/haunting junkie that I am today. Each were only a few dollars on amazon but to me, they're priceless!

Arrived today...13 Ghostly Tales!

Purchased a little while ago, this book was an indispensable part of my monster-making childhood!

Good God! I remember 13 ghostly tales! Completely forgot about that book until I saw the picture. A very cool idea re-creating that collection. Do you have "How to care for your monster" in that collection?
Thanks for the blast from the past!

And I had COMPLETELY forgotten about that one! There are some pics of it HERE.

And on the audio front, in addition to Disney's Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House, there was Ghostly Sounds! I've managed to scrape up an .mp3 version of that one.

Thanks for the link- that was awesome. Looks like I may have to do a bit of Amazon shopping myself!

Good finds! I have the original on vinyl - Disney's Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House.

THAT is an excellent idea! For me, it would be collecting all the old horror movies that were my intro to the genre. You can find most of them on dvd these days.

Hey Jen, I think my dad has my copy of that on vinyl. Not sure what condition it's in. I played the YELL out of it! As a kid I would crank it up at night, place the speakers in the window of the house and go outside at night pretending my house was the haunted one. I grew up in a 200 year old, 2 story house in upstate New York, 12 miles from my nearest neighbor. And we did have a small cemetery on our property. I can still feel the chills!

Hey Ali,

I'm amazed at some of the cool compilation dvd's I find in bargain bins for only a few dollars. You have to dig deep sometimes though...but I'm no stranger to digging. ;)

ummm you had a real cemetery on your property? How f'n cool is that? I mean really!!!

Ali - The Undertaker is 100% correct. You can find the old horror ones in the cheapo bins. I'm a "digger" myself.

PS: Speaking of books, you ever try half.com?

Hi Jen, I grew up in Ft. Plain, New York which used to be an old Revolutionary War fort. The cemetery we had on our property was small....only about a dozen stones or so but it provided just the right amount of ambiance for young Vic Ives to have lots and lots of ghostly experiences! It was weird knowing that there were dead people just a few dozen steps from my bedroom. I regularly found musket balls, axe heads and skulls when the snow would melt and the rushing streams would unearth its treasures!

I never have tried half.com...but I will now!
